Plastic injection blow moulding is simply have 2 main moulding process which named injection moulding and blowing molding. As you can see it from the name of injection blow moulding technique. It is a combination process of plastic injection molding and blow molding to produce hollow, thin-walled plastic bottles & containers that are light and do not have handleware. Plastic injection blow moulding is faster than extrusion blow moulding and offers higher size precision. The injection blow molding products may have a threaded neck, thin yet strong walls and safety enclosures like Pill Bottles, Baby Feeding Bottle,Eyedrops Bottles,Chewing Gum Bottle,Comestic Bottles,Roller Ball Bottle, etc.
Injection blow molding technique is easy to be understand be difficult to master. Below we will try to explain the injection blow moulding process step by step.
Injection Blow Moulding Process
1. Injection Molding Process
The injection blow moulding machine will fistly load and heat plastic raw material as melten which is soft for easy injection with limited space. This treatment is finished with an extruder barrel and the screw assembly. By the end of the screw, there is cylinders to push the molten material that feeds through into the plastic mold, which is designed to produce the preform or parison of the plastic bottles or containers. The hot material is still on the core pin, waiting for the next blowing molding process.
2. Blowing Molding Process
The blowing mold closed when the injection core rod of injection mold is opened up, then the horizontal injection blow moulding machine releases compressed air inside the blowing mould, which expands the bottle prefoms to the final shape of the hollow bottles or containers.
3. Ejection Process
After the blowing mould and plastic cools, The horizontal injection blow moulding machine drives ejection cylinder to push the slides to open the holding neck of bottles or containers. Product take out robot will pick up the bottles or containers to transforms conveyor. The following process will be leak testing and apperance inspection with visible camera and push out configuration. And then the packing process or material filling process.
Injection blow molding allows more precise detail in the neck and finish (threaded) area than extrusion blow molding. A big improvement in physical properties is realized in the injection blow molding process since very little orientation occurs.
Injection Blow Molding Materials
The thermoplastic raw materials that are utilized within the blow molding process come in the form of small pellets or granules, which are first melted and formed into a hollow tube, called the parison. Blow molded parts can be formed from a wide range of thermoplastic materials, including:
- Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE).
- High Density Polyethylene (HDPE).
- Polyethylene Terephtalate (PET).
- Polypropylene (PP).
- Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC).
Injection Blow Molding Applications
Plastic Injection Blow moulding can be used to produce numerous types of products. Parts produced from the blow molding process are generally plastic, hollow, and thin-walled. These types of products are regularly used and are available in a bevy of shapes and sizes. The most seen injection blow molding products are include:
- Pill Bottles
- Eyedrops Bottles
- Roller Ball Bottle
- Comestic Bottles
- Chewing Gum Bottle
- Baby Feeding Bottle
- Water & Soda Bottles
- Shampoo Bottles
- Oil Jugs
- Milk Containers
- Storage Tanks
- Plastic Drums
- Tubs
- And Others More
